Korea's monster flick "The Host" and martial arts fantasy "The Restless" have been chosen to compete for an international prize at an upcoming Brussels film festival, its Web site showed Sunday (March 18).
The Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film, slated for April 5-17 in the Belgian capital, invited the two blockbusters for its international competition section and four other Korean movies for a non-competitive section, it said.
"The Host" by Bong Joon-ho has drawn international attention with its mix of political satire, flawless graphics and humanity, telling a story about a monster created by toxic fluids poured into Seoul's Han River by a U.S. military employee (the dumping was a real incident in 2000). It has topped the Chinese box office and performed well in the United States after setting the local box office record with 13 million tickets and winning international prizes.
Jo Dong-oh's "The Restless", called "Jungcheon" (halfway to heaven) in Korean, is a 2006 cross-border production involving Chinese staffers and Japanese artists.
Other Korean films invited to the festival's non-competitive section were "Vampire Cop Ricky" by Lee Si-myeong, "Aachi And Ssipak" by Jo Beom-jin, "A.P.T" by Ahn Byeong-ki and "Mug Travel" by Lim Ah-ron.
