Sponge to Release Eternal Hearts

Art-house, indie, and foreign importer Sponge Entertainment will release For Eternal Hearts, HWANG Qu-dok’s supernatural melodrama that World Premiered as the curtain raiser for this year’s Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (July 12-21). The film will have a limited local release, August 9th at Sponge’s independent theater chain called Sponge House. It stars JEONG Jin-young (King and the Clown), JEONG Kyung-ho (Gangster High) and KIM Min-sun (Memento Mori).

Written by HWANG, the film is a tale within a tale, narrated by Su-young, a forty-ish college professor recounting to his class the memory of his first love when he was a college student. Witnessing her die in the turmoil of the pro-democracy movements of that era, Su-young becomes confused when she reappears mysteriously. At the same time he meets a new love-interest, Suji and her motorcycle-riding brother. As the story develops, life and death, dream and reality weave seamlessly, leaving the audience to ponder how uncertain the borders are between these seemingly opposite states.

Director HWANG began his movie career as production staff for IM Kwon-taek. He made his feature debut in 1990 with Searching for My Class. In 2003 he made the coming-of-age comedy Chulsoo and Younghee. He is currently a film studies professor at Myongji University. For Eternal Hearts is his first film in four years and is a KOFIC-supported production.
