Hallyu Wood Draws Attention of Asian Press
Ten major press agencies around Asia flocked to cover the launch of the construction of the Hallyu Wood Theme Park and the Hallyu Wood Start Festival. A 34-year-old reporter from Hong Kong's cable network CEN spent a busy day interviewing Korean celebrities in Ilsan, the venue of the Hallyu Wood Start Festival. She said that the Hallyu Wood complex will be a great entertainment space for Asian fans of Korean cultural content. Another reporter from a Japanese cable network program entitled 'Movie Plus' also expressed his hope that Hallyu Wood would become a great venue for cultural exchange. Choi Ji-woo, Jewelry, Kim Ah-joong, Big Bang, Cho Hyun-jae, Lee Hye-young, Paik Yoon-shik and Lim Kwon-taek were among the celebrities who were present at the festival.
Jo Hyun-jae to Hold Fan Meetings in Japan in June
Actor Jo Hyun-jae, who has emerged as a Hallyu star through his appearances in TV dramas and films, will visit Japan to meet his fans before starting his military duty. Jo will hold a series of fan meetings in Japan next month. The actor will meet his fans at the Osaka NHK Hall on June 22 and at the Tokyo Nagano Sun Plaza on June 23. He has also invited 400 fans to a dinner show themed "First Love" at the Westin Nagoya Castle Hotel in Nagoya on June 27. Jo, who was cast alongside Bae Yong-jun and Jeon Do-yeon in the 2003 'Untold Scandal,' rose to stardom with his roles in the TV drama series 'Love Letter' and 'Seo Dongyo.' His upcoming fan meeting will be his first visit to Japan in ten months since his last visit in August last year when he took part in the 'Hallyu Expo" event held at the Tokyo Dome. Some 3,300 fans are expected to attend the fan meetings in Osaka and Tokyo.
Yoo Jin (Eugene) and Jo Hyun Jae cast in KBS "Three Dads, One Mom"
Yoo Jin and Jo Hyun Jae have been cast as the main leads in "Three Dads, One Mom" to be aired on Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS 2TV. Jae Hee and Shin Sung Rok will join the two in the series. "Three Dads, One Mom" is scheduled to start airing on April 2nd and will be the story of a widow's love and raising a child. The series is a romantic comedy about three men who donate sperm to a friend who was suffering from aspermia, and the wife who becomes pregnant but loses her husband in an accident. Producing director Lee Jae Sang of "Dalja's Spring" and writer Jo Myun Joo of "The Vineyard Man" will be directing and writing the series. Former S.E.S. member Yoo Jin (Eugene) will play single mom Na Young while Jo Hyun Jae, Jae Hee, and Shin Sung Rok are the three men who donate. Jo Hyun Jae who is returning to the TV screen two years after "Ballad of Seodong" will play a comic role as a successful fund manager. Shin Sung Rok plays the role of an innocent detective who cannot even speak well in front of women while Jae Hee is a 'pretty boy' comic artist who likes girls but doesn't know true love. The series will start filming on March 3rd.
Male Stars Go to the Military This Year

This year, some of the hottest male stars in Korean entertainment will temporarily leave the spotlight to enter the military as part of the two-year service compulsory for all Korean males. ``Coffee Prince'' star Gong Yoo met with around 1,000 fans in a special meeting Sunday. He asked fans not to worry while he was serving in the military, but became emotional during the event. Gong's red-hot career will have to be put on hold for the next two years. The actor, who recently gained popularity for his role in the hit MBC drama, will enter the military Jan. 14. Last week, actor Chun Jeong-myoung, who appeared in the film ``Hansel and Gretel,'' and pop group NRG member No Yoo-min started their military training. Hallyu stars Zo In-sung, Cho Hyun-jae, Yang Dong-keun, Lee Dong-gun and Kim Rae-won are also expected to enlist this year. The K-pop music industry will also suffer the temporary loss of Shinhwa members Eric Mun and Kim Dong-wan, singers Eru and Sung Si-kyung, as well as former H.O.T. member Tony An. As they prepare for the military, many male stars are scrambling to finish shooting TV dramas and movies, hold concerts, release new albums and endorse products. Zo is filming the historical epic ``Ssanghwajeom'' directed by Yoo Ha, while Kim Rae-won will appear in the TV drama ``Sikgaek.'' Mun and Kim Dong-wan will be the first two Shinhwa members to enter the military. The group's 10th anniversary concert in March was also seen as a ``farewell'' concert because of the members' impending service. Sung Si-kyung held a concert last December, and is said to be releasing an album before he joins the military in February. Eru received much attention from the media, after he gave up his American citizenship two years ago. His management agency said Eru, entering the military in the second half of the year, will hold his first solo concert next month. If these stars are worried fans may forget about them during their two-year absence, they should look at the experiences of male stars returning to the entertainment scene. Even though actors Song Seung-heon and Jang Hyuk entered the military in 2004 after they were accused of draft dodging, their careers did not seem to have suffered lasting damage. Jang appeared in last year's hit drama ``Thank You,'' and is currently shooting his first Hollywood film ``Dance of the Dragon.'' Song is filming ``Fate'' with Kwon Sang-woo, which will be released this year, and will soon appear in a TV drama ``The City of God.'' Other actors who are making a comeback after being discharged from the military are Ji Sung and So Ji-sup. Ji Sung is appearing in the MBC medical drama ``New Heart,'' while Suh is still filming the drama ``Cain and Abel.'' On the other hand, Won Bin, who was discharged in 2006 due to an injury, has not announced plans for a film or drama. He only made brief appearances as a UNICEF Ambassador last year.
