“I have difficult time as well”, Choi Ji-woo’s actress life review

Actress Choi Ji-woo is considered as the number 1 leading actress and top Korean star by successful TV productions including Beautiful summer days (SBS TV), Winter Sonata (KBS 2TV) and Stairway to Heaven (SBS TV). She is also considered as one of the most well known Korean star overseas.

As a successful actress, Choi ji-woo has more than beautiful face and body. Her talent acting skill makes she became famous in a very young age. Many people don’t think Choi Ji-woo had difficult times when she first became an actress. But in fact, she suffered more than other fresh actors from the period before she became famous. “I grew up through all the difficult times before I became famous and I always refer to that period when I have difficulties in my life”, said Choi Ji-woo.




Difficult Times

First becoming an actress in 1994 trained by MBC, Choi Ji-woo was not so successful at that time. She can only participate in a few miniseries in the following years with very few lines. She said her lines in those miniseries are so basic that she can only remember sentences like “Please have some tea.”
There were not so many opportunities coming to her as well. Once she played a role in a comedy show, she was misunderstood as a fresh comedy actress. “People always made jokes about me because I participated in the comedy show; but I learned so much about acting and myself through that play.” The comedy show made her get the opportunity to perform in miniseries First Love and finally made her a professional actress.

She used to lose her role as leading actress before 3 days of the filming which can be referred as the most heartbreaking moment of her actress life. During the most difficult time, Choi Ji-woo’s manager always supported her and encouraged her to challenge different roles. He also helped change her stage name to Choi Ji-woo which became famous later.



Leading actress for Korean drama

First Love in 1996 (KBS 2TV) made Choi Ji-woo the super star with audience rating soared to 65.8% which broke the record in the history. Producer of First Love think Choi Ji-woo’s pronunciation as an actress is not so good. But her unique acting skill matches her role in the drama very well.



After First Love, Choi Ji-woo’s next two miniseries also reached 40% audience rating and finally became top star in the SBS TV production Truth. Followed by Beautiful summer days (SBS TV), Winter Sonata (KBS 2TV) and Steps to Heaven (SBS TV), Choi Ji-woo not only became the top star in Korea but also gained broad popularity in other Asian countries.

Sometimes reviewed as pop star without professional acting skills, Choi Ji-woo tried different roles as in MBC TV Air City and SBS TV Love of Star to challenge herself and are well received by the audience as well.

I love her - I really, really love her! From First Love , I've tried to buy or rent all her dvds- Winter Sonata, STairway to Heaven, Beautiful Days, A Star's Lover,etc. She is simply amazing! She can metamorphose from a young girl to a beautiful woman with very little make-up. She is one actress who I can recognize right away as I am not Korean. The other one is Song Hye-Kyo who I also love. All other Korean actresses, no matter what they say look the same. Well, I can recognize Kim Tae Hee with the big eyes. Anyway, I love Choi Ji-Woo, especially her height. She needs tall leading actors like the actors in A Stars Lover. Song Hye-Kyo would be perfect if she had Choi Ji-Woo's height. My only comment for Choi Ji-Woo is: I wish she chooses her man well (in private life). It's a risk to choose a much younger man for many reasons but maybe she can be another Demi Moore.
