Lee Mi-sook, the 45-year-old star of "Untold Scandal", "An Affair", "Whale Hunting" and "That Winter Was Warm", ended her 20-year marriage to plastic surgeon Hong Sung-ho.
The couple made the decision to divorce recently and Lee had her legal representative submit the documents to Seoul Family Court Monday afternoon. A friend named "K" told a reporter, "They have lived apart since their two children went to the U.S. to study six years ago. Their love for each other faded because of that prolonged separation".
K added that there were no hard feelings between the two and that they promised to maintain good relations after the divorce. According to K, the actress and her ex-husband cared for their children and helped each other with their professional and family affairs while they lived apart.
Lee and Hong were together several times a year in Los Angeles where their 20-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter live. When not working, Lee spent most of time supporting her children. She shot her most recent film "...ing" in 2003.
An official from her management company also said in a telephone interview on Monday, "There was no conflict or special problems in their relationship. She and her ex-husband both agreed to divorce, so the procedure will be carried out without any fuss". She will reportedly take care of the two children.
