2NE1 “Triple Hit” and Plagiarism Criticism

4-member girl singer group 2NE1 wins popularity through title song “I don’t care” from mini album which is considered as “Triple Hit” with the previous LG commercial song “Lollipop” and first stage song “Fire”. In spite of powerful rival Girls Generation, 2NE1 continue to be hot issue in the music market.



Competition for three kingdoms



The song “I don’t care” achieved high positions in all the online music charts. Different from two potential rivals Girls Generation and Wonder Girls, 2NE1 breaks the image of ordinary girl singer group and starts the Hip-hop genre as their own strategy. “The object for 2NE1 is to have their own concert at the end of this year”, said director Yang of YG Entertainment, 6 July.



An insider of the music industry guesses the sale of 2NE1’s mini album will achieve almost the same as Girls Generation and Wonder Girls. With the come back stage of other girl singer group such as KARA and Brown Eyed Girls market for girl singer group will become so competitive.

2NE1 will possibly gain more popularity after they release the music video and album sale of “I don’t care.”



The biggest competitor Girls Generation is considered as the best girl singer group of Korea though their famous songs “Girls Generation”, “Kissing You” and “Baby Baby” and continually receives good comments about their recent released song “Tell me your wish”. Another competitor Wonder Girls also begins to develop their music kingdom overseas by the help of producer Park Jin-yeong.



At the same time there are some comments in internet community sites saying 2NE1’s “I don’t care” plagiarizes “Just Go” of American singer Lionel Brockman Richie. 2NE1’s company YG Entertainment also own famous singer group Big Bang who used to receive plagiarism criticism as well. This can be considered as a dangerous sign for 2NE1 in the competitive music market.
